Lonnie Frisbee was a young hippie seeker fully immersed in the 1960s counter culture when he claimed to have experienced an encounter with God while on an acid trip. This event so transformed him that Lonnie became an itinerant Christian evangelist, something of a John the Baptist of Southern California who compelled thousands of fellow spiritual seekers to make a profession of faith in Jesus Christ. During the 1970s Lonnie Frisbee became widely known as California's "hippie preacher," the quintessential "Jesus freak" whose pictures frequented such magazines as Time and Life as the media told the story of a burgeoning "Jesus movement." Lonnie Frisbee provided the charismatic spark that launched the Calvary Chapel church into a worldwide ministry and propelled many fledgling leaders into some of the most powerful movers and shakers of the evangelical movement. During the 1980s Lonnie was at the center of the "signs and wonders" movement.

Only two months old and the filesonic links are both dead for the 'Frisbee: The Life and Death of a Hippie Preacher' from 2005. I have wanted to see this for years but I have never come across it on any public torrent site or filesharing site..or any other blog...in fact this is the first place I have seen it posted..
ReplyDelete...I am keeping my fingers crossed you made a copy of it before the links died as I am sure there are plenty of people out there who are wanting to see this film...if you can repost the film links I would be very happy!
The 'Frisbee' documentary has to be one of the best I have seen this year..not only does it give you a fascinating insight into the consensus reality of modern western Christianity, it does what the best documentaries do, it leads you to the same "take" on the story as the film-makers themselves clearly have but without any overt moralising or "message"...
ReplyDelete...also it had one of the most "matter of fact, no drama" takes on psychedelic usage I have ever seen! Personally, I have always concurred with Negativland's analysis of organised religion, namely "Christianity is stupid" ;)
